"The road to intimacy with God is honesty."
This book taught me to be honest with God. I can tell him anything. There is nothing I can hide from Him.
When I feel sad, low and depressed I can come to Him and lay my burdens at His feet. I do not have to put on a smile on my face when He already knows and sees my heart.
God is our omniscient, loving and gracious Father. If there's someone we can be vulnerable and honest with, look no further, He is right there with you!
I learned to embrace lament in my theology. After all, Rico Villanueva noted in this book that there are more lament in Psalms than praise. God invites us to express our lament to Him. So, I encourage you, my sister in Christ, to come to God just as you are. Even if you are not okay, even if you feel like a failure. God is your Father, He sees and cares for you. Let Him deal with you just as you are and let Him change your heart in the process. Come to Him with an honest heart, with no pretense. God can take on anything, even the messiest and ugliest part of your heart.
Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my salvation and my God.
Psalm 42:11
