Feeling overlooked felt like my constant companion over the many months of covid restrictions. I was in my room for long hours studying and this has been my life ever since covid hit us. I know you are well familiar with this feeling. The feeling like nobody sees you, nobody can feel how sad and tired you are. That feeling of looking within, feeling pity for yourself and thinking, "nobody cares".
Craving for attention and love is a beautiful thing. But it gets tiresome when we look for love apart from the One who truly satisfies us. Consider what Augustine said over 1,500 years go.
“You have made us for Yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in You.”
Ever since I can remember, I've always longed to be seen. I experienced my first two decades craving for love and attention. Coming from a broken family and not experiencing my earthly father's love left the old young Cate going after worldly loves. I went after friendships, boys, popularity, drinks, shopping and more because I was restless. My heart was restless. My heart didn't yet know its maker.
When you feel restless, remember that Christ invites you to rest in Him.
When the daily grind of life makes you feel overlooked and it feels like nobody sees you. LOOK UP!
When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?
-Psalm 8:3-4
One of the many things I love since I quit social media was appreciating nature more when I go for my walks. When I look up, I see God's majesty. I see the works of His hands around me. When I look at the sky, the flowers, the water run through the river and the ducks in the river enjoying themselves, some napping (ducks look so cool when they take naps). I cannot help but be in awe of who God is and who I am in Him. Looking up and going outside brings everything into perspective.
When I feel overlooked, I know it is far from the truth. My Father sees me. He is mindful of me. He loves me and delights in me. I am assured of this because of what Jesus did for me on that rugged cross. He is my righteousness. He defines me because of who He is.
He defines you because He made you. He made you to rest in your identity in Him. A child of God. Loved, justified, forgiven, adopted and made perfect in Christ.
When you feel overlooked, look up. Look at the vastness of God's creation, that very God who made this wonderful world is mindful of you. He loves you. Let your heart remember that.
